good place to start. Here you can access our library catalog, online databases,
and popular search engines, through the "Quick Search Databases" drop
down menu.

catalog. A good trick in searching is to use "Basic Search" and then
use "Keyword (Relevance Ranked)." This type of keyword searching will
take your vocabulary and give you the nearest match. It also searches the
author, title and subject fields. A search like "music AND reggae"
will give you information about reggae music as well as materials about Bob
Marley and performers in the reggae field.

Popular Photography--Find out which cameras,
lenses, digital cameras and accessories rated the best. This is a great
magazine for photography techniques as well. Read this before you buy your
camera, since it is such expensive equipment.

Communication Arts--Every year Communication
Arts has a Photography Annual, as well as for Illustration, Design and
Advertising. This is great for visual ideas about what kinds of imagining you
might want to dabble in.

Sheet Music--Filled with easy
arrangements of jazz, pop, musicals and country western music among others.
This is a great place to go if you have a gig!

Film Comment--Perhaps the best magazine
in the world about movies, Film Comment offers articles and reviews about
recent films, and the film making process.

Art News--This is a great source for
gallery openings, the most recent art (in full color), historical and current
artists, as well as articles about different art movements. This has a lot of
articles, and some great full color art.

Art Forum--In contrast to Art News,
Art Forum is more colorful art, less articles. Both magazines have
authoritative, well written articles.
