"Finding Articles for Your Research Paper”

Reference Librarian Patricia Naylor, Instructor

Our Library Resources

http://www.sccd.ctc.edu/~library/--The Library Homepage. Here you can access our library catalog, online databases, and popular search engines, through the "Quick Search Databases" drop down menu.

http://scclib.sccd.ctc.edu/--Our library catalog. A good trick in searching is to use "Basic Search" and then use "Keyword (Relevance Ranked)." By limiting the search to “South Campus,” you can access books found only in our library.

Databases (Access through http://www.sccd.ctc.edu/~library/, using the drop down menu)

Proquest Direct

This database is for a more broad search, good for rare subjects. Proquest Direct offers articles from hundreds of newspapers and journals from around the country.

CQ Researcher

This database is for current issues in the news, each article is subject oriented. Select "Site Now!" within an article to get an easy citation for your bibliography (MLA, APA, etc.).

Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center

This database offers information from both sides of an issue. Knowing both sides of an issue can make your argument paper more effective, unbiased and thorough. Features a handy dictionary, toolbox, search tips, and help on the upper right hand corner of each page.
